About the Program
Evidence continues to mount regarding the value of breastfeeding for both women and their infants. ACOG strongly supports breastfeeding and seeks to provide resources to help health care professionals, hospitals, and employers support women in choosing to breastfeed their infants.
To assist in this effort, we founded the Breastfeeding Expert Work Group.
Breastfeeding Expert Work Group
ACOG founded the Breastfeeding Expert Work Group in February 2014 to develop educational resources and to continue to demonstrate ACOG’s commitment to helping women achieve their goals for the best care possible for their newborns. The work group, which meets twice annually, includes a representative from the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Breastfeeding. Work group members represent ACOG at meetings for the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Breastfeeding and the United States Breastfeeding Committee. ACOG staff are also involved with other national breastfeeding initiatives. We also collaborated on the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development's Safe Sleep Initiative.
Mission Statement
ACOG’s Breastfeeding Expert Work Group will assist ACOG, specifically the Committee on Obstetric Practice and other committees as appropriate, by providing expertise in breastfeeding medicine and using that expertise to develop and promote breastfeeding tools and initiatives for providers and patients at all levels of the community.
