Council on Patient Safety in Women's Health Care

The Council on Patient Safety in Women’s Health Care fosters multidisciplinary collaboration by bringing health care organizations together with patients to drive culture change.

Our central goal is to improve health care for all women. ACOG founded the Council in 2011, and along with 18 other members across a diverse group of health and patient organizations, proudly partners with and supports the Council’s mission, vision, and programs. The Council on Patient Safety works toward this purpose through the following initiatives:

  • Patient safety tools and resources, including a library of Patient Safety Bundles – small, straightforward sets of evidence-based practices that help providers improve outcomes across the women’s health continuum.
  • The Safety Action Series: interactive teleconferences on various topics relevant to promoting a culture of safety in women’s health care. All sessions are archived and freely available for playback.
  • The Voices of Impact video series: this series seeks to elevate the voices of women and families who have experienced severe maternal events.
  • The National Improvement Challenge, an innovative program that seeks to improve maternal care through the development of patient safety and quality improvement programs at the residency and educational program level.
  • The National Improvement Video Challenge, designed to provide an opportunity for institutions to share their quality improvement efforts though a video-based competition.
