ACOG Joins Statement in Support of COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates for All Health Care Workers
The following statement is from ACOG President J. Martin Tucker, MD, FACOG, on the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists joining the statement of support on July 30, 2021 in favor of vaccine mandates for all health care workers:
“ACOG has long advocated for health care professionals, including its member obstetrician-gynecologists, to receive the COVID-19 vaccine,” said ACOG President J. Martin Tucker, MD, FACOG. “Vaccination is key to preventing new infections and saving lives. Now that ACOG has announced a strong recommendation for COVID-19 vaccination in pregnancy, we feel confident in formally joining the more than 60 organizations in advocating that all health care and long-term care employers require that their workers receive the COVID-19 vaccine. We could not ignore the fact that individuals who are pregnant or are considering pregnancy are a significant part of the health care workforce, with an estimated 330,000 health care workers who are pregnant or have recently given birth. This population is an important contributor in the effort to stop the spread of this virus and, hopefully, they will now feel confident in receiving the vaccine along with their colleagues so that this pandemic can finally come to an end.”
