ACOG Applauds Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act
The following quote is from Eva Chalas, MD, FACOG, FACS, President of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG):
"Obstetrician-gynecologists know that their patients cannot be healthy if they are not safe. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is as important today as it was in 1994. With reports of increased rates of intimate partner violence and sexual assault during the pandemic, it is essential that the programs supported by VAWA be reauthorized once again. The lives and well-being of our patients demand it. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists urges the Senate to pass this life-saving legislation without delay and we are confident that President Biden – who himself ushered in the passage of the original VAWA as a senator – will swiftly sign it into law."
