Introducing the Committee on Advancing Equity in Obstetric and Gynecologic Health Care
In order to more accurately reflect its work and mission, the members of the former Committee on Health Care for Underserved Women recently voted to change its name to the Committee on Advancing Equity in Obstetric and Gynecologic Health Care. In discussing this change, the members agreed that the committee’s goals had expanded beyond access to care to more broadly focus on racial justice and equity in health care for all people in need of obstetric and gynecologic care.
Reflecting the committee’s decision, the ACOG Executive Board approved the following committee description:
“The Committee on Advancing Equity in Obstetric and Gynecologic Health Care works to ensure ACOG's continuing leadership role in increasing social and racial justice in Ob/Gyn care. The committee is charged with developing evidence-informed, consensus guidance that centers equity and justice and addresses a wide range of topics related to the health needs of those who are systemically oppressed.”
