ACOG Partners with Black Mamas Matter Alliance on Black Maternal Health Week 2020

This past week, April 13-17, ACOG was proud to partner with Black Mamas Matter Alliance on Black Maternal Health Week 2020, to advocate for effective policies, and solutions to eliminate racism, bias, and inequities in maternal care

The theme for Black Maternal Health Week 2020 was "Centering Black Mamas." The week included interactive educational sessions online and over social media. ACOG participated in the Black Maternal Health Week opening TweetChat, and throughout the week, shared our commitment to confronting implicit and explicit bias and racism, providing patient-centered, respectful care, and advocating for the improvement of maternal health outcomes for Black women.

ACOG recognizes that in order to improve maternal health outcomes for Black women, we must change how care is delivered by ensuring that the methods used to address implicit bias and racism align with Black women’s needs, values, and preferences and address the ways in which health care systems perpetuate inequality.
