The Darney-Landy Fellow position at ACOG is a one-year placement for obstetrician–gynecologists with fellowship training in complex family planning. It honors the clinical excellence of Phil Darney, MD, MSc, FACOG, and the collaborative advocacy of Uta Landy, PhD.
Dr. Michael A. Belmonte (he/él) is an obstetrician–gynecologist and complex family planning subspecialist. He completed his medical school training at the University of Illinois Chicago, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, which recognizes students, residents, and faculty for compassionate care. He completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Indiana University and fellowship training in complex family planning at the University of Colorado. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in human communication sciences and psychology from Northwestern University and served with AmeriCorps for a year. Dr. Belmonte’s clinical and research interests are focused on medical education, ethics and communication, health equity, intimate partner violence, and comprehensive reproductive health care, including abortion care and contraception.
