Compassionate Conversations: Obesity

Talking About the Impact of Obesity on Overall Health

About the Webinar

The Compassionate Conversations series aims to highlight effective techniques obstetrician–gynecologists can use to have sensitive conversations with patients. The first webinar in the series focuses on best practices health care professionals can use to have patient-centered discussions on obesity and how to document obesity.

Obesity is defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher.1 From 2017 to 2020, the prevalence of obesity in the United States was 41.9%.2 Many patients have questions about obesity, including during pregnancy. In this webinar, we hope to provide obstetric and gynecologic health care professionals and their patients with the tools to be confident in discussing obesity in a sensitive and respectful manner. We have also compiled a selection of important resources for consideration when discussing weight with your patients, including the Appointment Companion Checklist.
