2023 Districts VIII & IX Annual District Meeting

At the Intersection of Science and Advocacy

Maui, Hawaii | Sep 28-30, 2023

Overview

Make plans to join friends and colleagues at the 2023 Districts VIII & IX Annual District Meeting! Don’t miss the chance to network and connect in person while learning from leading experts in the field from September 28 to 30 in Maui, Hawaii, at the Grand Wailea.

This year’s meeting theme is At the Intersection of Science and Advocacy and will feature sessions focused on navigating the difficult situations facing obstetrician–gynecologists and their patients during these challenging times, inclusivity, trauma-informed care, and poster sessions showcasing the work being done by our future leaders. All of this will take place in front of a backdrop of mountains and manicured gardens with koi ponds. We’ll even have a sunrise yoga session overlooking the beach! The 2023 Districts VIII & IX Annual District Meeting was designed specifically to give you the opportunity and time to network and learn from leaders around the country, so be sure to secure your spot.

Meeting Considerations

  • Do not travel to West Maui or any area affected by the recent wildfires.
  • Learn about your destination. Research norms and customs of Hawaiian culture before your arrival.
  • Reduce your individual water consumption. Consider asking that your towels, sheets, and any additional bath linen not be turned over during your stay; using the refillable water bottles provided to you in your room; not using laundry services during your stay; and reducing your overall water consumption in your room.
  • Tip service workers and staff members. Tipping hotel staff and those who assist you during your stay is a phenomenal way to show appreciation, say thanks, and support them during this difficult time.
  • Eat and shop locally. Support small businesses by eating at a local restaurant or shopping for snacks at a local store; purchase souvenirs from a local vendor or farmers market; and check out our member-only Engage community for curated lists of local restaurants, businesses, and farmers markets.
  • Volunteer. If you have a free morning or an extra day in your itinerary, we strongly encourage you to sign up for one of the many volunteer opportunities available to you. Our planning committee has done research and curated several group and individual options for those looking to pitch in and help out; please check out our Engage community for volunteer opportunities and sign-up sheets.
  • Donate. Consider donating to the Maui Strong Fund at our table outside the general session. Each donation gets you a ticket to our fundraising event.
