Advocacy

The CREOG Education Committee (March 2015*) is pleased to provide the following Advocacy Educational Modules for Ob-Gyn Residency Programs as a resource for curriculum incorporation and residency education in Advocacy (CREOG Educational Objectives, 10th edition, Unit 1 General Considerations, Systems-Based Practice).

These educational modules include a user's guide, which describes how each module might be utilized, depending on time and facilitator availability. The modules offer varying levels of engagement, ranging from individual resident self-study activities to longitudinal exercises best paired with faculty participation and group reflection.

Advocacy as an educational objective was introduced in the 10th edition of the CREOG Educational Objectives (2012). However, more than merely "legislative advocacy," the Educational Objective delineates advocacy for the patient, women's health, and the profession of obstetrics and gynecology.

Recognizing the passion for advocacy activities embraced by the Junior Fellow College Advisory Council (JFCAC)—including winners of PACwars, contributors to record-breaking attendances at the Congressional Leadership Conference (CLC), and creators of JFIT projects around the country, the CREOG Educational Committee offered to partner with this highly motivated group to create useful advocacy educational tools for ob-gyn residency programs and their residents.

The JFCAC accepted the challenge, and these modules are the result of their hard work, with the guidance of CREOG Education Committee members Leah A. Kaufman, MD and May Hsieh Blanchard, MD. We hope you will find them to be useful. (March 26, 2015)
