As the 87th Texas Legislative Session progresses, District XI Junior Fellows wanted to make their voices heard as they advocate to extend Medicaid coverage for one year postpartum. Junior Fellow District and Section officers created a short video (below) that urges Texas lawmakers to pass legislation that would provide important and necessary coverage for new mothers.

Increasing access to comprehensive health services during pregnancy, the year after pregnancy, and throughout the preconception and interpregnancy periods to facilitate continuity of care and promote safe birth spacing is a key recommendation of the Texas Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Committee.

Advocacy for extended coverage has also been a top priority for the District XI Legislative Committee this session. District XI members can also get involved by showing their support for House Bill 133 and contacting their local Texas House representative.

Questions or comments can be sent to Sherlena Boehm, District XI manager at [email protected].
