Immigrant Women
ACOG supports the health and well-being of all women and girls without regard to their immigration status; supports access to adequate, timely, and evidence-based health care for women and girls held in immigration detention facilities, including abortion care; and supports the presumptive release of pregnant detainees.
Our Position
ACOG opposes:
-
Immigration practices that are detrimental to women and children’s health, including separating children from their parents or caregivers
-
Immigration practices that place women at increased risk by denying asylum requests to those who claim credible fears of domestic abuse
-
Efforts to expand the scope of “public charge” that will intimidate and dissuade patients and their families from seeking necessary health care
