Eva Chalas, MD; Mineola, NY
Dr. Eva Chalas obtained her MD degree from Stony Brook University, School of Medicine, completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at its Medical Center and her fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where in 1998, she served as an American Cancer Society Fellow. Dr. Chalas is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Gynecologic Oncology, and is a Fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
Dr. Chalas has held leadership positions as Governor in the American College of Surgeons, Secretary-Treasurer of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) and served on the board of the Foundation for Women’s Cancer. She has also been a member of numerous committees of ACOG and has served as Chair of ACOG District II. In this role, she represented over 3,000 New York State obstetricians and gynecologists as a member of the Executive Board of ACOG. She served a second term as a member of this Board representing SGO. In 2019, she was nominated as President Elect of ACOG. The organization represents more than 55,000 specialists in women’s health care, promoting education, quality of care, and advocacy for women and its members. During her career, she has received numerous awards for her work, including national recognition for clinical excellence and leadership. However, she is most proud of the awards given to her by grateful patients and their family members, and by those who work most closely with her.
Dr. Chalas is the Physician Director of Center for Cancer Care, Professor at the NYU Long Island School of Medicine, and Vice-Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Winthrop Hospital, where she practices, caring for women with gynecologic cancers or complex gynecologic problems. Dr. Chalas has been a steadfast supporter of women’s health. She is involved in clinical research and has published and lectured extensively, particularly on prevention and treatment of gynecologic cancers. She and her family, along with her partners, patients and health care team, have a long history of participating in community events regionally and nationally, helping increase awareness of women’s cancers and raising funds to support research aimed at prevention, early detection and effective therapy.
