Safety Project Collaborative, Washington, DC

April 7, 2019

Course Description
In response to feedback from previous attendees of the postgraduate course Quality and Safety for Leaders in Women’s Health Care, ACOG offers the Safety Project Collaborative for those who are looking for guidance on a current or future process improvement project.  Small teams from the institution are also encouraged to attend.

This course is designed for participants who want to develop  a process improvement initiative or project for their organizations or to reinvigorate an existing one. The proposed project must be submitted in advance to allow the faculty to prepare and modify the course content to best fit the attendees' needs. Registration will include follow-up coaching sessions with faculty for up to six months following the program.

Attendance with small teams of stakeholders within institutions is strongly encouraged and will allow attendees to receive the maximum benefit from the program. The number of registrants will be kept low to ensure optimal interactions with the faculty and other attendees.

Examples of process improvement projects that may be appropriate for the course include:

  • AIM Bundle Implementation
  • Instituting shared decision making with patients
  • Eliminating non-medical indicated births prior to 39 weeks
  • Initiating drills and simulations
  • Accommodating new technology
  • Standardizing of clinical protocols
  • Adopting checklists
  • Lowering primary cesarean delivery rates in low-risk women
