In response to interest expressed by attendees at previous offerings of the postgraduate course Quality and Safety for Leaders in Women’s Health Care, ACOG will be offering an advanced course for who are looking for guidance on a current or future process improvement project.  Small teams from the institution are also encouraged to attend. Attendance is limited to health care leaders who have attended the ACOG postgraduate course (or an equivalent).

This course is designed to allow participants to develop an actual process improvement initiative or project in his or her organization, or to reinvigorate an existing one. The proposed project must be submitted in advance to the faculty to allow them to prepare and possibly modify course content based on projects submitted. Registration will include follow-up coaching sessions with faculty for up to six months following the program.

Attendance with a small teams of stakeholders from your institution is strongly encouraged and will provide you maximum benefit from the program. The number of registrants will be kept low to ensure optimal exposure to the faculty and other attendees.

Examples of process improvement projects that may be appropriate for the course include:

  • Instituting shared decision making with patients
  • Eliminating non-medical indicated births prior to 39 weeks
  • Initiating drills and simulations
  • Accommodating new technology
  • Standardization of clinical protocols
  • Adoption of checklists
  • Lowering primary cesarean delivery rates in low-risk women
  • Adoption of policies on Trial of Labor After Cesarean and Vaginal Birth After Cesarean

Attendance at the ACOG course on Quality and Safety for Leaders in Women’s Health Care is required for participation. If you have not previously attended the ACOG course, you will be asked to describe the formal training in performance improvement you have received at the time of registration.
