Cefalo Leadership Institute

Are you an experienced Fellow who wishes to improve your leadership skills, a young physician who is emerging as a leader, or a Junior Fellow who has demonstrated leadership potential?

District VII is looking for interested nominees to apply for ACOG's Cefalo Leadership Institute in Chapel Hill, North Carolina from March 18 – 22, 2020. The Leadership Institute provides specifically designed intensive workshops to enhance skills in ob-gyn leaders in a rapidly changing health care environment. Selected candidates will employ assessment instruments provided by leadership experts, communications specialists, and world-renowned physicians during an intensive four-day program. The Cefalo Leadership Institute is an amazing course—you will learn, push yourself, and network with inspirational ACOG leaders! 


  • Participation in or a demonstrated potential for leadership within ACOG sections, districts, or committees
  • Participation in or a demonstrated potential for leadership within his or her own institution, district, section, community or state
  • Willingness to prepare for the Institute by completing all the instruments, including the leadership inventory and the 360 evaluation prior to the meeting
  • Ability to attend the full four days of the Leadership Institute
  • A commitment to initiate and continue leadership activities and continue work on a local and/or national level after the Institute

Congressional Leadership Conference

Each of District VII’s Sections have sponsorships available to attend the Congressional Leadership Conference (CLC) in Washington, DC. The event is taking place March 8 – 10 at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel and provides ob-gyns training on legislative process, lobbying, and key women’s health issues. Attendees meet with their elected representatives on the final day of the CLC, allowing their voice to be heard on Capitol Hill!

Gibbons Award - open to all Medical Students in District VII.  Winners receive funding to attend the Annual District Meeting

Burch Award - open to all Junior Fellows in District VII.  Winner receives funding to attend the Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting, and has their essay published on the District VII website

Cefalo Leadership Institute - open to all Junior Fellow and Fellow members in District VII, three recipients receive funding to attend the program in North Carolina

Congressional Leadership Conference (CLC) Sponsorship - open to all members in District VII.  Each Section selects at least 5 individuals to be fully funded to attend the CLC in March.

Hollis Fellowship - open to all Young Physicians (Fellows in the first 8 years of practice), this award rotates through the Sections so different states are eligible each year. Recipients join the Young Physician Advisory Council and receive funding to attend the Annual District Meeting

Resident Reporter - open to all Junior Fellows in residency.  This award rotates through the residency programs in District VII so different programs are eligible each year.  Winners are selected by their program director, and receive funding to attend the Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting
