Domestic Violence During Pregnancy

Approximately 324,000 pregnant women are abused each year in the United States. The severity of intimate partner violence may escalate during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

As an ob-gyn, you can help.

  • Make resource materials available to patients, such as safety procedures, hotline numbers, and referral information.
  • Screen often for intimate partner violence during obstetric care. Screening should occur at the first prenatal visit, at least once per trimester, and at the postpartum checkup.
  • Download the posters below and share on your social networks.
