American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (members side)
The College provides information on the professional liability insurance crisis including a survey and listserv.  There is also a conference for posting questions and concerns.

American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA)
AHLA is the largest organization devoted to legal issues in the healthcare field.   AHLA provides publications, education programs, teleconferences and listserves on health law.

American Medical Association (AMA)
The AMA has several sections on Tort Reform (Policy and Advocacy section) and Legal Issues for Physicians (Physicians section).   Information is on federal, state, court, political grassroots activities and tort reform.

American Tort Reform Association (ATRA)
ATRA’s mission is to bring efficiency to the civil justice system.   The ATRA site provides information on the issues, loony lawsuits, links to other organizations, and the ATR Foundation.

Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB)
The FSMB’s mission is to improve quality safety and integrity of health care in the United States by promoting physician licensure and practice.   Links to the fulltext of policy documents including Evaluation of quality of care and maintenance of competence.

The Joint Commission formerly JCAHO
This site includes standards, alerts,and   performance reports on healthcare organizations.  The Joint Commission site also includes patient safety information.

The Manhattan Institute of Policy Research (MI)
Provides information and publications on tort law and legal reform.

National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)
The NAIC site offers information to regulators, producers, companies, consumers, and employees on insurance issues including insurers.

National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS) at the VA
NCPS is hosted by the Department of Veterans Affairs and includes root cause analysis, creating a culture of safety, glossary, and other risk management information.

National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)
NCQA provides information on quality assurance to improve health care quality in the United States health system.

Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA)
PIAA is a trade association of more than 60 professional liability insurance companies owned and operated by doctors and dentists. The PIAA site has publications on costs, issues and education, as well as risk management in health care.

Physician Litigation Stress Resource Center (PLSRC)
The PLSRC provides physicians and other health care professionals with the resources they need to understand and cope with the personal and professional stress created by involvement in a medical malpractice case or an adverse outcome that may result in litigation. This not-for-profit site directs practitioners to articles, books, and websites addressing the process of litigation; suggests strategies for coping with the stress of litigation; and lists resources that may provide support for physicians and other health care practitioners throughout the ordeal of litigation.

RAND Institute for Civil Justice 
The ICJ offers research to help make the civil justice system more efficient.   The ICJ website has information on its research agenda, publications, and links to other websites.

Shoulder Dystocia: Facts, Evidence and Conclusions
By a member of the College this site provides information on shoulder dystocia for physicians along with links to other resources.
