Advocacy & Health Policy: Graham-Cassidy Bill is Dead

Senate Republicans admitted that they could not get the 50 votes needed to pass a proposal by Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dean Heller (R-NV), and Ron Johnson (R-WI) to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). ACOG is urging House and Senate Democrats and Republicans to work together to fix shortcomings in the individual markets, while protecting and strengthening landmark women’ health protections ACOG won in the ACA.

ACOG worked hard to defeat the Graham-Cassidy bill, holding two fly-in events for Junior Fellows and for our Group of 6 coalition, led by the presidents of the six primary care physician organizations.  In these meetings, our members and leaders urged senators not to turn back the clock on women’s health and highlighted the importance of contraception coverage under the ACA.

Thank you to all our members who helped defeat the Graham-Cassidy bill, including the many who advocated efforts through our action alerts.
