Membership & Fellowship: Junior Fellows Strive for Success at 2017 Junior Fellow Day

More than 100 Junior Fellows took advantage of a full day of programming designed especially for them on Sunday, May 7, at the 2017 Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting in San Diego, CA.

The day began with an overview on the Written and Oral Board Exams by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), Executive Director George Wendel, MD, and Associate Executive Directors Wilma Larsen, MD, and Susan Ramin, MD. Next up, Educardo Lara-Torre, MD, professor of Ob-Gyn and Pediatrics at Carilion Clinic/Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, and a board examiner, discussed the do’s and don’ts for creating your Caselist!

In the afternoon, Junior Fellows were invited to consider their future paths within the organization with a presentation on Pathways to ACOG Leadership. The day finished up with the last session, the Dr. Scott and the Honorable Dr. Nan Hayworth Junior Fellow course: Life after Residency…Transitioning from Training to Practice. Presentations included:

  • Contracts and the Business of Medicine from Steve Kaufman, JD, Partner at Wright, Constable & Skeen, LLP,
  • Financial Planning for Young Physicians – Your Financial APGAR from ACOG Past President James Breeden, MD
  • Curriculum Vitae Preparation by Kirsten Wieckhorst, senior physician recruiter at Northwell Health

After a full day of programming, Junior Fellows came away tired, but inspired to move forward in their careers. Visit the Junior Fellow website for a full list of activities from ACOG Junior Fellows.
