Advocacy & Health Policy: ACOG President Haywood L. Brown, MD, Represents Women’s Health on Capitol Hill

Upon taking office, ACOG President Haywood L. Brown, MD, met with six US Senate offices with one important message: Don’t Turn Back the Clock on Women’s Health. Dr. Brown urged senators to protect landmark women’s health gains that ACOG won in the Affordable Care Act: maternity care coverage, preventive care including contraceptives, and insurance protections against pre-existing condition exclusions.

Dr. Brown’s message was echoed by presidents of other primary care physician organizations, including: the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American College of Physicians (ACP), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and the American Psychiatric Association (APA).

We at ACOG, along with our primary care colleague organizations, are asking the Senate to work with us to develop a better approach to health care reform that aligns with our coalition principles
