The Executive Desk: Spring into New and Improved ACOG Services

Hal C. Lawrence III, MD, Executive Vice President and CEO

After a prolonged cool and rainy May here in the Washington, DC area, it seems that spring has finally sprung. Along with the warm weather, we are celebrating several new and improved ACOG services. I am proud that staff and volunteers never stop trying to figure out new and better ways to serve you and the profession.

We all know the importance of counseling our patients on keeping up with their vaccinations, including the HPV vaccine. A physician recommendation for vaccination has been shown to be the most effective way to increase immunization rates among patients. ACOG has made it easier for you with the launch of our updated HPV toolkit. This toolkit includes all-in-one place access to evidence-based health care provider guidance and patient education materials. Read Enhance Your Practice with the HPV Vaccination Provider Toolkit and download the toolkit.

ACOG’s education department is proud to introduce a new special edition of the popular PROLOG educational series. The new title – Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery – covers the important topic of pelvic floor disorders and has the added benefit of being the first PROLOG title to go completely digital. Now you can take the online assessment online and get your results instantly. Read Test Your Knowledge with New PROLOG Title for more information, and consider purchasing this new title at a $50 discount when purchasing both the print and eBook versions.

We just concluded a tremendously successful Annual Meeting. Attendance figures were up, which we attribute to the revamping of the meeting last year to redouble our focus on clinical practice and science.  Among the new initiatives was live streaming video of the inauguration of our 67th president Thomas M. Gellhaus, MD, as well as all colloquia addresses. You may still view Dr. Gellhaus’ stirring speech online as well as an important late-breaking lecture on Zika on the Annual Meeting Colloquia page. Another new feature was ACOG TV, which provided interviews with newsmakers at the meeting and profiles of trusted institutions. Be sure to review some of these 22 short videos available on demand.

Read the meeting recap in this issue of ACOG Rounds for a list of ways you can still take advantage of the meeting content. And don’t forget to see for yourself what all the excitement is about by planning to attend the 2017 Annual Meeting, May 6-9, in San Diego, California.

Also in this edition of ACOG Rounds, enjoy articles on the 8 traits of an ideal physician, a listing of our latest guidance documents, our VRQC program – Voluntary Review of Quality of Care for inpatient facilities – and ACOG’s work on the Women’s Preventive Services Initiative, a $950,000 grant awarded to ACOG by HRSA to update their comprehensive set of preventive health services to enhance the well-being of women.

Here's wishing you and yours an enjoyable and prosperous spring!
