Practice Management: The Pregnancy Wheel Reinvented — Tap, Instead of Spin, Your Way to a Date

Calculating your patient’s due date just got a lot more accurate thanks to ACOG’s new Estimating Due Date Calculator (EDD Calculator), now available on the ACOG app. The beta-tested EDD Calculator is the highest-rated pregnancy wheel app by ob-gyns due to its comprehensiveness, function, and design.

Intended to replace the physical plastic wheel, the Calculator strictly follows the ACOG - American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine - Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine joint Method for Estimating Due Date Committee Opinion.

There are currently over 1,800 ob-gyn related apps on the market—but ACOG’s EDD Calculator is the only app that reconciles the discrepancy in due dates between the first ultrasound and the date of the last menstrual period.

The EDD Calculator also recalculates the due date based on assisted reproductive technology (ART) to assist health care providers with patients who undergo embryo transfer and contains a “time machine” function that allows the user to determine a fetus’ gestational age at a specific date. Although the EDD Calculator will be most helpful for ob-gyns and other obstetric providers, its simple and straightforward format makes it easy to use for all members of the health care team, including patients.
