The Executive Desk: Soak in the Latest in Health Care in Sunny San Diego

Hal C. Lawrence III, MD, Executive Vice President and CEO

Welcome to the April issue of ACOG Rounds, your monthly member e-newsletter.

On behalf of the Executive Board and staff of ACOG, I invite you to join us at the 2017 ACOG Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting, May 6–9, in San Diego, CA. Register and reserve housing before Friday, April 7 to take advantage of advance rates.

With the future of women’s health care uncertain on Capitol Hill, it’s important that we take the time to sharpen our skills and learn from experts on everything from practice management to improved patient care. The ACOG Annual Meeting is the foremost gathering of women’s health care professionals, and we want to count you among the attendees. ACOG’s Committee on Scientific Program, along with our Education Department, led by Dr. Sandra Carson, have put together a robust education program designed to optimize your learning experience.

In the article Your Schedule for Four Days at the Annual Meeting, we offer a sample itinerary for how you could spend your time at this year’s meeting. With hundreds of topical keynote talks, hands-on  seminars, and clinical sessions to choose from, the itinerary highlights how you as a busy ob-gyn might choose to take on the breadth and quality of information available to you at the meeting. I encourage you to consider this plan or build your own through our online planner. You'll be surprised at how much you can take in in a few short days.

If you don’t have four days to spend away from your practice, we recommend you spend the weekend with us. New this year, we’ve arranged the schedule so that all Colloquia, Clinical Seminars and other vital talks are Saturday, May 6 through Monday, May 7. Tuesday, May 8, will focus on 3-hour and 6-hour postgraduate courses—an important addition to your Annual Meeting experience if you have the time.

Plus, with hotels within easy walking distance of the convention center and downtown San Diego, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the city as well.  Bring your family for a quick getaway. We have plenty of family-oriented activities planned.

Whether you’re able to attend or not, consider purchasing the Virtual Meeting. This valuable package includes over 100 hours of keynote talks and clinical seminars from this year’s meeting that you can watch at your leisure. Attendees can add on Virtual Meeting to their registration for just $199. Non-attendees will be able to purchase the Virtual Meeting in mid-May. Learn more about Virtual Meeting in this issue of ACOG Rounds.

There is also an opportunity to spotlight your hard work at the Annual Meeting through ACOG TV. Back for the second year, ACOG TV is a sponsorship opportunity where you and your institution can use a video platform to engage people in important issues in women’s health. In 2016, these videos received over 5,000 views in 2016. Learn more in this issue of ACOG Rounds.
