Medical Education: Stay Current with ACOG UPDATE

ACOG is pleased to sponsor the monthly program ACOG UPDATE, which provides subscribers with an engaging way to stay up to date with the latest clinical findings in the field of obstetrics and gynecology and earn CME credit. Published by Medical Information Systems, each monthly issue consists of a roundtable discussion with a moderator and two panelists, all of whom are selected for their in-depth knowledge of that month's topic. Now in its 42nd year of publication, ACOG UPDATE is continuing its long tradition of providing unbiased clinical information on timely and relevant topics that you won’t find addressed in manufacturer-sponsored CME programs.

This month’s topic, for example, provides clinical tips and guidance on how to improve the gynecologic care of sexual minority patients in your practice. Topics addressed include:

  • How to create a welcoming and inclusive office environment
  • What type of routine care and screening tests lesbians, bisexual women, and transmen require
  • Fertility concerns and family planning
  • Specific risk factors this population faces

It may surprise you to learn, for example, that the risk of unintended pregnancies is higher among lesbian-identified youth than among heterosexual youth.

To allow you to learn at your convenience and in a manner that suits you, the ACOG UPDATE program is available in different formats; a physical version and an internet-only version. The audio program, available as a CD or mp3 file that can be streamed on any device, allows you to earn CME credits on your commute or to “learn while you burn” at the gym. The print format provides the opportunity for more in-depth study; plus, it includes learning objectives, pretest questions to test your baseline knowledge, and post-test questions, which you can submit electronically or via mail to earn CME credit.

An additional benefit of ACOG membership is that ACOG UPDATE is available at a discounted rate to ACOG Fellows, Junior Fellows, and educational affiliates.

Visit to learn more about the ACOG UPDATE and peruse upcoming topics as well as past issues still available for CME credit.
