Obstetric and gynecologic services are greatly needed in the developing world. In areas where medical services are inadequate and medical knowledge is scarce, opportunities exist for physicians to use their skills and expertise to help save lives and relieve suffering. By offering training, health care and medical assistance to people at highest risk and in greatest need, physicians can have a profound impact on the lives of individuals and the entire community.
ACOG is committed to assisting in this endeavor. We have gathered information from some of the organizations that perform global service work and that will aid in the placement of individuals wanting to work abroad. The lists are not exhaustive, and the inclusion or exclusion of a particular organization should not be construed as a reflection of that groups work. The organizations are broken down into four categories to help you identify the best fit for you and the work you would like to do.
We have provided information about these organizations and links to their websites because we feel that they may be of interest to our members. ACOG does not necessarily endorse the views expressed or the facts presented by these organizations. ACOG has had no direct experience with the organizations and has not reviewed the accuracy of the information reproduced in this list or presented in the linked sites. Interested individuals are advised to seek out further information before becoming involved with a listed organization.
