ACOG supports the Institute of Medicine's recommendation of universal human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing with patient notification as a routine component of prenatal care to further reduce the rate of perinatal transmission of HIV in the United States. Use these tear sheets to easily inform women of the blood tests that are recommended for all pregnant women, including HIV, to help routinize prenatal HIV testing in your practice.

Each pack of tear pads includes a laminated information card for physicians explaining ACOG's recommended prenatal HIV testing strategy and suggested script that providers may find helpful when using the tear pad to notify patients about HIV testing.

This tear pad will explain:

  • How to be tested for HIV
  • What happens with your HIV test results
  • Helpful treatment for you and your baby
