Call to Order:
At 12:45 p.m. Dr. Burwinkel called the meeting to
order.
Approval of Minutes:
The minutes of the September 26, 2008 meeting were
approved.
The Congressional Leadership Conference was
addressed. It will be March 1-3,
2009, in Washington, D.C.
March of Dimes:
Volunteers are needed for the March of Dimes Planning
Committee for Prematurity Month.
The meeting will be held February 11, 2009, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Ms. Rogers was invited to sit on the
legislative committee by Becky Johnson. Dr. Burwinkel asked Ms. Rogers to find out what Ms.
Johnson needs in terms of physician support.
Legislative Report:

Additional information with regards to the legislative
report:
President Obama has issued a number of executive
orders affecting healthcare. Health
Information Technology piece allows for 20 billion dollar stimulus
package. ACOG estimates that
$30,000-$65,000 to help Ohio doctors to convert to EMR (Electronic Medical
Records).
Speaker, Martin November, CEO Advanced Practice
Strategies:
Martin November presented information on the Safety
Initiative. (See attached presentation)
Approval was given for Dr. Flora to attend National
Forum on Quality Improvement in Healthcare.
Legislative Day:
The 2009 Legislative Day is planned for April 22,
2009. The schedule will be a 7:00
a.m. briefing/training on lobbying. From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. there will be scheduled
appointments with legislators.
From 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the business meeting will be held.
Dr. Flora suggested talking points be sent prior to
Wednesday. Ms. Rogers will arrange
hotel rooms for out of town physicians attending.
Medical Home Discussion:
Ms. Rogers provided in her legislative report,
information on the Patient Centered Medical Home. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has
concerns about the medial home and has established a committee to discuss and
work on our position on this issue.
Dr. Burwinkel stated that our stand is that we would like to be included
in the Medical Home Model for women of reproductive age.
The Coalition of Primary Care Physicians wants to take
the lead on issues such as defining a medical home, establishing criteria,
supporting pilot projects and helping implement any proposals in Ohio. Ms. Rogers asked to have ACOG host one
of the COPC luncheons. Approval
was given for the sponsoring of a COPC luncheon.
Updates:
Cleveland: Free care clinic scheduled for May 2nd
and 3rd. This will be
held at the Cuyahoga County Fair Grounds and sponsored by RAM (Rural American
Medical Corp).
Akron: Cuyahoga Falls General Changed name. They are not doing deliveries. SUMMA has slowed down the buying
process of smaller hospitals. They
have imposed a hiring freeze. The
Medical School is adding a 4th consortium. They are anticipating a shortage of medical students.
Treasury Report:
Dr. Trout reported that the Section is ahead of budget
for 2008. Ms. Rogers will be
retiring in December of 2009.
Suggestions needed for a replacement.
Dr. Burwinkel suggested a virtual office site at the
OSMA.
Meetings:
It was suggested that the meeting for September 2009
be a social event, including spouses.
September 18th was the date decided on for the September
Section Meeting.
