April 9, 2013

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Infertility coding is fast-paced and ever-changing. In addition to the fact that the field is on the cutting edge of technology, which creates the need for new codes, there is also the issue of insurance coverage. The coverage of and submission of claims for infertility diagnosis and treatment is one of the least understood and most abused elements in the field of medical coding. However, a clear understanding of infertility coding principles will help physicians and coders maximize proper reimbursement.

OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this session, the attendee will be able to:

  • Describe the appropriate usage of diagnosis codes to properly characterize the patient’s condition
  • Develop protocols for defining “diagnostic” services and “treatment” services
  • Identify recent changes in fertility treatment protocols and their accompanying codes
  • Address the specific ethical issues associated with coding for infertility services
