Webcast: Breast Cancer Screening: An Evidence-Based Discussion of Current College Guidelines

March 13, 2012

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In November 2009, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) changed its recommendations for routine breast cancer screening for women in their 40s. Additionally, the recommended screening interval for women 50 and older was changed to every other year. Most other consensus groups (e.g., ACOG, American Cancer Society, National Comprehensive Cancer Network, American College of Surgeons, and others) disagreed with these recommendations, resulting in confusion for women and their health care providers as to the most effective evidence-based means of breast cancer screening. This webcast will review the evidence behind the USPSTF recommendations, and discuss why the College has made a number of recommendations for screening that vary from those of the USPSTF. This webcast will focus on the latest College Practice Bulletin on Breast Cancer Screening (Number 122, August 2011), with practical recommendations for all aspects of breast cancer screening for your patients.
