PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION
With the widespread use of electronic health records (EHR) and the associated templates, care must be taken to ensure that the medical record information reflects the findings and needs of individual patients. This webcast will outline the coding and documentation challenges and opportunities presented by electronic medical records. The appropriate use of the coding and documentation tools available in many EMRs will be discussed along with the documentation needed to support the reported CPT and ICD codes.

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the presentation, the participants should be able to:

  • Recognize key challenges and opportunities associated with EMRs
  • Apply coding and documentation tools such as templates, documentation macros, E/M coding tools, and coding search functions appropriately
  • Express the importance of supporting CPT and ICD codes in the clinical record
