NJ Section Junior Fellow Report 2013
The 2012 Junior Fellow Day was held in conjunction with District I & III combined
Annual District Meetings at Hahnemann/Drexel University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. The event was a great success, 120 Residents and Faculty from over 15 programs participated in this years event. The morning session consisted of informative talks about ACOG and the OBGYN PAC followed by Vivian E. Von Gruenigen, MD, chair of ob-gyn and director of women's health services, Summa Health System, Akron, OH, speaking about her experiences with using social media as a practicing physician. Nathaniel G. DeNicola, MD, Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, spoke about the importance of social media for political advocacy.
The afternoon sessions had many simulations on vaginal breech delivery, shoulder dystocia, loop electrosurgical excision procedure, hysteroscopy, amniocentesis, B-Lynch, episiotomy repair, intrauterine device placement, and manual vacuum aspiration. The highlights of the simulation activities were the laparoscopic pig lab and the cesarean delivery model.

We are currently working with a non-for-profit organization, Peppermint and Ginger Comfort Kits, to create a fundraising activity in which NJ junior fellows, fellows, friends and families can participate. The event will be a Bowl-A-Thon in which then funds raised will be donated to Peppermint and Ginger Comfort Kits to make and distribute kits to individuals receiving chemotherapy.
