ELDER ABUSE: An Introduction for the Clinician:  Is a fifty-two slide PowerPoint Presentation.  The information contained in this teaching module is designed to aid providers in making decisions about appropriate care of older adults. The content is intended to be an introduction to the subject of elder abuse. Any guidelines should not be construed as dictating an exclusive course of treatment of procedure. Variations in practice may be warranted based on the needs of the individual patient, resources, and limitations unique to the type of practice or institution. Initmate Parter Violence and Domestic Violence - a comprehensive slide lecture with instructional notes, resource listings, etc. Excellent resource for training both medical and lay audiences. Available in English and Spanish.

Resident Reporter Handouts - handouts from a half-day on violence against women for Ob-Gyn residents conducted by ACOG in conjunction with the 2001 Annual Clinical Meeting. Topics include the psychological and physical impact of trauma, intervention opportunities for adolescent/dating violence, elder abuse, and violence during pregnancy and postpartum.

General Information Packet includes fact sheet, national domestic violence organizations list, commonly asked questions, and a bibliography on domestic violence.

CME Video and Monograph - Clinical Aspects of Domestic Violence for the Ob-Gyn- is a 20 minute video, approved for 3 Category 1 AMA credits and 3 ACOG cognate hours.

Patient Pocket/Shoe Cards

  • "No matter how you say it, it's all abuse" pocket/shoe cards include safety plans and national toll-free hotline phone numbers. Tri-fold card is small enough to hide in the sole of a shoe. ACOG recommends placing cards in bathrooms, where women are more likely to be away from the abuser and to feel more comfortable to take information. Now available in Spanish.
  • "Stay Alert! Stay Safe!" pocket card is available for teens. The card is especially designed for teenagers with tips on staying safe from sexual assault. This card is not yet available in Spanish.

All patient distribution items and the rolodex cards are available free of charge in small quantities. Larger quantities are available on an at-cost basis from ACOG, with the exception of the Domestic Violence Pocket/Shoe Card. Larger quantities can be ordered by calling 1/800-762-2264 ext 349.
