April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Sexual violence is an enormous problem that affects millions of women in the United States. ACOG encourages physicians conduct screening of all women at routine intervals, such as annual exams. Screening can be easily incorporated into history taking by asking direct questions such as the questions on ACOG's screening tool.
ACOG also encourages patients, advocates, and physicians to contact their local rape crisis center to learn more about their and to find out about special activities scheduled during April. If you don't know how to find your local rape crisis center, contact your state's sexual assault coalition.
