John Gibbons Medical Student Award Opportunities
Each District is responsible for awarding the John M. Gibbons Medical Student Award each year. The award is used for travel expenses for ACOG Medical Students attending ACOG National, District, or Section Meetings. Below are the current opportunities for your District.
District VI (Illinois, Iowa, Manitoba, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Saskatchewan, South Dakota, Wisconsin)
Offers the award to help encourage medical students to select obstetrics and gynecology as their chosen specialty. This award is used to help supplement medical student travel expenses incurred while attending an ACOG meeting: the Congressional Leadership Conference (CLC) in Washington, DC, March 2-4, 2014, the Annual Clinical Meeting (ACM) in Chicago, April 26-30, 2014 or the District VI Junior Fellow Annual Meeting in the Wisconsin Dells, August 8-9, 2014. Interested applicants should forward the following items directly to the District Manager, Stephanie Williams (firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than January 5th. All submissions should be sent electronically. If selected, you will be asked to turn in a one-page meeting summary report of your experience. We must receive this report no later than 2 weeks after the meeting.
-An updated one-page Curriculum Vitae
-A brief essay of 500 words or less that answers the following two questions: "Why have you chosen OB/Gyn as a profession?" and "Why do you wish to attend an ACOG meeting?”
-A letter of recommendation from your OB/Gyn clerkship director, an OB/Gyn residency program director, or an OB/Gyn attending stating your interest in OB/Gyn (you may also include a resident's recommendation letter, if you wish, but you must have the attending's recommendation)
