New CDC Website: HIV Screening. Standard Care. For Primary Care Providers (June 2010): Every 9½ minutes (on average) someone in the United States is infected with HIV. It is estimated that 21% of infected people are not aware of their HIV status.

The CDC's new website for primary care providers contains comprehensive information about HIV, including testing tools and resources.

New CDC Fact Sheet: HIV Among African Americans (September 16, 2010): The CDC has released their recently updated Fact Sheet on HIV Among African Americans, with information from the 2008 HIV Surveillance Report: Diagnoses of HIV infection and AIDS in the United States and Dependent Areas.

New Online Toolkit: HIV Testing and Screening Cost and Reimbursement (August 31, 2010): A new free online toolkit, including a cost and reimbursement guide, is now available for hospitals and providers to help estimate the financial impact of HIV testing.

Report of a Meeting: Reproductive Health and Preconception Care of HIV-Infected Women: The recommendations in this report prescribe actions to improve reproductive and preconception care of women living with HIV in the United States across a spectrum of program, policy, and research issues. The meeting aimed to develop strategies to improve preconception and reproductive health care through the integration of HIV management with reproductive health and family planning services for women with HIV infection.   The recommendations assembled in the report are from 32 experts from various governmental agencies, academic institutions, and community representatives and have undergone clearance by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.

New Online Tutorial: Routine HIV Screening in Health Care Settings: A new online, interactive tutorial is now available from the University of Washington, and provides an in-depth look at multiple aspects of routine HIV screening. It provides 1.5 hours of free CME and CNE credit.

Updated: State Law Compendium (February 2011)
The National HIV/AIDS Clinicians' Consultation Center released an updated Compendium of State HIV Testing Laws. Information is available in table format showing state HIV testing laws by category (e.g. Laws for Testing Pregnant Women and/or Newborns, Counseling Requirements, Informed Consent, etc.) or by individual State Profile. State profiles include citations and links to state web sites.
