NCHHSTP Releases an Updated NCHHSTP Atlas (December 2013)
The National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) released an updated NCHHSTP Atlas, which now includes localized, county-level epidemiologic data for HIV and other STDS. This interactive tool provides CDC an effective way to disseminate data, while allowing users to observe trends and patterns by creating detailed reports, maps, and other graphics. Learn more
TX/OK AETC Offers Free Online Training Modules (September 2013)
The Texas/Oklahoma AIDS Education & Training Center is now offering a series of nine free online training modules for health care professionals:
Session 1: Maternal-Perinatal Transmission of HIV & Syphilis: An International Perspective
International epidemiologic trends of HIV & Syphilis to include mother-to-child transmission of HIV and Syphilis, screening and current treatment regiments for HIV and Syphilis in women.
Session 2: The Intersection of Intimate Partner Violence & HIV+ Women
Overview of trends in the epidemiology of the intersection between intimate partner violence and HIV in women: effective clinical and public health intervention strategies.
Session 3: Changes to the Ryan White Program & the Affordable Care Act
Discuss changes to the Ryan White Program, its relationship to the Affordable Care Act and how it impacts on HIV positive women.
Session 4: Toward Eliminating HIV Heterosexual Transmission
Effective prevention and intervention methods to reduce heterosexual HIV transmission; highlight opportunities to work towards eliminating sexual HIV transmission; this will include a review of the Positive Reproductive Outcomes for HIV+ Men (PRO) initiative, an innovative approach to integrating men's reproductive health desires within a primary care setting.
Session 5: Medication Adherence & High Risk Prenatal Care
Review effective methods to increase medication adherence in HIV+ women, including best options for initiation of antiretroviral therapy and OB/GYN clinician follow-up scheduling.
Session 6: Preconceptual Counseling of HIV Positive Women
The reproductive age woman represents a major demographic in the HIV infected population. As such, the routine medical care of these women outside of their HIV management is vital to their health & well-being. Understanding the gynecologic care of the HIV infected woman (the nnual exam) is important to all medical personnel involved in the care of these women. Pregnancy is another issue affecting this cohort while the management of the pregnant woman is part of a separate talk, preconception counseling & management of the HIV disease in the setting of a woman desiring pregnancy will be discussed in this session.
Session 7: HIV Prevention (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)
Prevention of HIV infection in women at risk of HIV exposure; a general review of PrEP for serodiscordant couples.
Session 8: Reproductive Health & the Care of HIV Infected Women
Review of clinical care and treatment for HIV-positive women, particularly focusing on women of reproductive age, including gynecologic care.
Session 9: HIV Positive Women & Aging
Review of clinical management of HIV positive women, with a particular focus on aging (menopausal) and older women and review of clinical management of HIV positive women, with a particular focus on aging (menopausal) and older women.
Updated AIDS Trends Through 2011 Slide Sets (from CDC) (September 2013)
