In August 2010, the College released a Committee Opinion on
Cervical Cancer in Adolescents: Screening, Evaluation, and Management. This opinion provides additional details on the recommendation to begin pap testing at age 21 years. It also discusses what to do if cytology is performed before age 21 years, recognizing that the management of cervical cytologic abnormalities in adolescents differs from that of the adult population.
