ACOG's Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting

The Program for Continuing Professional Development, which is also referred to as the Cognate Program, is a voluntary educational program designed to facilitate and coordinate achievement of high quality continuing medical education (CME) in obstetrics and gynecology. Professional Liability

The Department of Professional Liability/Risk Management provides information to public and governmental policy makers about the adverse effects of professional liability on the practice of obstetrics and gynecology, and access to ob-gyn care. This information is based on recent department surveys on the effects of professional liability. The department also is responsible for educating the Fellowship on ways to reduce the risks of malpractice litigation and cope with the stress of such litigation. Staff of the department cannot provide legal advice. The department develops and disseminates educational risk management materials, programs, and products; monitors and collects data on professional liability and insurance; and serves as a direct resource to Fellows and Junior Fellows by providing guidance and offering suggestions. In addition, the department provides direct support to ACOG Districts and Sections.

Underserved Women

Examines issues affecting women's access to health care services, in particular obstetric, gynecologic, and family planning services, and implements solutions that will involve ACOG and its members at the national, state, and community level. Current areas of investigation include the impact of Medicaid managed care, welfare reform, cultural competency, the medically uninsured and underinsured, incarcerated women, ritually circumcised women, lesbian health, and the health care of immigrant women.

Violence Against Women

Information and materials for both clinicians and the general public on the impact of violence on women’s health and well being. Current projects include the National Sexual Assault and Rape Prevention Project, development of curricula on violence during pregnancy and elder abuse, revision of ACOG Educational Bulletin on Intimate Partner Violence, and the development of a new ACOG Education Bulletin on the clinical implications of Adult Manifestations of Child Sexual Abuse.
