In Memory of Dr. William N. Spellacy, Pioneer in Maternal-Fetal Medicine
It is with sadness and respect that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists remembers maternal-fetal medicine pioneer Dr. William N. Spellacy, who died on October 8, 2015 at the age of 81.
A teacher, mentor, researcher and clinician, Dr. Spellacy was one of the founding fathers and the first President of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine (previously known as Society of Perinatal Obstetricians). He held leadership roles in a number of major medical organizations: American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Perinatal Research Society, and Society for Gynecologic Investigation. He was was a member of many editorial boards, including Contraception, Current Problems in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Journal of Fertility and Sterility, Journal of Reproductive Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and ObGyn Digest.
