Read ACOGs Practice Advisory: FDA Boxed Warning on Immediate-Release Opioid Medications and All Prescription Opioids
ACOG has issued a Practice Advisory on FDA's Boxed Warning on Immediate-Release Opioid Medications and All Prescription Opioids in response to FDA's boxed warning language regarding neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) and the impact this may have on pregnant women receiving appropriate opioid treatment. The practice advisory provides information for obstetrician-gynecologists and other obstetric providers who may be caring for pregnant women taking medically-prescribed opioids (for pain management or for opioid-assisted therapy). CDC Issues Health Alert on Sexual Transmission of Zika Virus
February 27, 2016
CDC and state health departments are now investigating 14 new reports of possible sexual transmission of Zika virus, including several involving pregnant women. On February 23rd, CDC issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Advisory as a strong reminder to clinicians and the public to be aware of and adhere to current recommendations for preventing sexual transmission of Zika virus, particularly for men with pregnant partners. On February 26th, CDC released a new report reviewing cases of sexually transmitted Zika virus in the U.S. as well as a report reviewing preliminary findings on laboratory-confirmed Zika virus infection among US pregnant women with travel to areas of Zika virus transmission.

Important Zika Virus Alert for Florida Ob/Gyn Providers from the Florida DOH
As I am sure you are aware that the Zika virus infection has been associated with microcephaly in newborns, as reports from Brazil have recently indicated. In addition to the Practice Advisory issued by ACOG's national office this afternoon containing clinical guidance regarding Zika virus, District XII has compiled resources specific to the state of Florida. Here is a letter from the Florida Department of Health as well as additional information from the FL DOH and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to better help you as you address these serious concerns with your patients. In addition, there is also specific contact information for the County Health Departments should you have further questions.
Please let me know if there is further information you need as you approach this rapidly evolving problem. I understand that because the Zika virus is transmitted by mosquitos that are ubiquitous in our state, and also because we have significant travel between the affected areas in Central and South America, Florida is on the front lines on this problem. As the Florida DOH, CDC and ACOG provide updates on this, ACOG District XII will also share the latest information as it becomes available.

ACOG District XIIs-Committee on Health Care for Underserved Women
HPV Awareness Project
Over the last year, ACOG District XIIs Committee on Health Care for Underserved Women has been working on an HPV awareness project. The materials were recently distributed to District XII Fellows at the ACOG District XII 2014 Annual District Meeting in August. All three resources are available for download, please click here to access the materials. While supplies last, you can also contact the ACOG District XII office at 904-309-6265 to request hard copies of the presentation, posters and brochures. Click here to download the order form.
