2014 Call for Papers

District III will be selecting 3 abstracts for presentation at the 2014 ACOG District III Junior Fellow Day at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE, Friday, October 3, 2014. We invite Junior Fellows of District III to submit an abstract, due to Christine Himes, chimes@acog.org by Friday August 15, 2014.  The best paper selected among the 3 will present their paper on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the combined Districts I, III & IV meeting in Baltimore, MD.  This paper will also be District III's nomination for the national Donald F. Richardson Memorial Prize Paper Awards competition (2 best papers among 12 districts are selected to present at the Annual Clinical Meeting (ACM) in San Francisco, May, 2015).  If you are selected as a JF Day paper presenter, we will waive your meeting registration fee and you will be reimbursed for travel, meals, lodging and incidentals. The principal author must be available to present. The due date for submissions is August 15, 2014.

Abstract Submission Instructions: The structured abstract must contain the following: Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. There is a maximum of 250 words. Use standard abbreviations only. Use numerals to indicate numbers except at the beginning of sentences. Do not use script. Tables or graphs may be included.

After presentation at Junior Fellow Day, each District Chair, or his/her designee, will select the best (one) Junior Fellow paper presented and sends that paper to ACOG National and ACOG National will send the paper to an anonymous Congress committee appointed to review the manuscripts. This committee will then select the two best papers submitted from all twelve Districts.

The two winning papers will be presented orally (by their authors) at the Annual Clinical Meeting (ACM) of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, April 27 - 30, 2014 in Chicago, IL. The authors of the winning papers should be encouraged to submit the papers to the editor of Obstetrics & Gynecology for possible publication.

The two award recipients will each receive a $2,000 stipend, travel expenses to the ACM, and a special certificate that will be presented at the ACM.

♦ Principal author must be a Junior Fellow of ACOG at the time of presentation. To be eligible for the award, you must also be a member of the District where you are presenting.

♦ All papers submitted to the national office for the Donald F. Richardson awards must have been presented at your annual Fall District meeting. When the Junior Fellows meet separate from the Fellows, the paper submission will be accepted from the Junior Fellow meeting ONLY.

♦ After the District meeting, the first place Junior Fellow paper must be submitted electronically with a cover letter noting the presenter of the paper, to the ACOG National Office, Department of District and Section Activities, no later than November 30, 2013.

♦ The principal author is requested to present the paper at the Annual Clinical Meeting.

♦ The paper must not have been published prior to May 2014.

Manuscripts should be prepared in a form suitable for publication consistent with that used by the Congress journal, Obstetrics & Gynecology; however, only the front sheet should designate the name(s) of the author(s), the date and the District meeting at which the paper was presented. The remaining pages should contain the title of the paper but not the name(s) of the author.
