Samaritan Medical’s SMI team clearly illustrates the effectiveness of teamwork in a maternal care setting. The project “leads” are Dr. Alvin Maloney, Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gayle Jech, RN, MSN, Nurse Manager, and Jessica Goodrich, RN, BSN, Assistant Nurse Manager. Additionally, one ob-gyn, midwife and/or nurse have been designated as leads for each of the SMI management plans (also known as maternal safety bundles) for obstetric hemorrhage, venous thromboembolism, and severe hypertension in pregnancy:
