Breastfeeding Medicaid Policy Update
As part of Governor Cuomo’s Medicaid Redesign effective April 1, 2013, Medicaid Fee-for-Service started providing reimbursement for breastfeeding education and lactation counseling during pregnancy and the postpartum period.  Effective May 1, 2013, Medicaid Managed Care and Family Health Plus plans also started covering lactation counseling services.  In addition, Medicaid requires that breast pumps meet minimum specifications to be reimbursable.
