The I-Stop Law requires all prescribers to have a health commerce account to enable them to access the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP). If you order controlled substances, you also need to be involved in I-Stop.
The “duty to consult” will take effect on August 27, 2013. The Department of Health is in the process of revising the current Prescription Monitoring Program. It is expected the new system will be ready to go in the next few months - and will be available by the time the duty to consult takes effect.
To enter into the Prescription Monitoring Program, physicians need a DEA number and an HCS account to check on a patient. The doctor will also need the patient’s name and date of birth.
