YOUR ACTION NEEDED NOW TO STOP PHYSICIAN PAYMENT CUTS
Payment Cuts Could Reach 37% in 9 Years
On January 1, 2007, physician payments for Medicare services will be cut by 5.1%.
And, due to the senseless way Medicare payment rates are calculated, physician payments are expected to decrease by 37% over the next 9 years.
Medicare physician payments have fallen below inflation, and office and medical liability costs continue to increase.
These cuts can affect your entire practice, as private insurers follow Medicare’s lead.
ACOG is working with the AMA and other physician groups to stop these cuts and permanently improve physician payments. Our goal has broad bipartisan support. BUT CONGRESS HAS ONLY 15 LEGISLATIVE DAYS LEFT TO PASS LEGISLATION TO STOP THE CUTS.
Every ACOG member should take a minute, right now, to help stop these cuts.
HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO
You can contact your US Senators and US Representative to let them know that these cuts would compromise your ability to accept Medicare patients.
You can contact them for free, using ACOG’s Toll-Free Congressional Hotline
1-866-899-4088. When prompted, give the code for ACOG, 7676.
Your message: Before the November elections, stop the Medicare physician payment cut scheduled for January 1, 2007. Share your story of how this cut will affect your practice and your patients.
How the Toll-Free Number Works
After you have called 1-866-899-4088 and given the ACOG code of 7676, you will be given verbal prompts and a reminder about the physician payment message. Then you will be connected with the offices of your two US Senators and your US Representative. (Before September 5, this will be their district office, while they are in state. After September 5, you will be connected to their Capitol Hill office.) Once you have given your message to the first of your three legislators (or, if the system advises you that the line of this legislator is busy), stay on the line to be connected to the office of your next legislator.
Thank you for your help to stop these cuts!
