Young physician update
Jennifer M. Keller, MD, District IV young physician
The Young Physician Leadership Council Meeting was held on May 5 as part of the Annual Clinical Meeting in New Orleans. I was impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of this group to ACOG, its members, and our patients. We discussed the results of the mentorship survey sent to young physicians several months ago, which showed that most young physicians are finding mentors to help guide them through the first years of practice. Other issues discussed at the council meeting include Maintenance of Certification, medical liability, financial protection, and work-life balance.
Mentorship was one of the themes of the Ninth Annual Young Physician Breakfast Forum on May 7 at the ACM. Haywood L. Brown, MD, District IV chair, spoke at the breakfast forum about mentorship from a university perspective. Laura A. Dean, MD, District VI vice chair, spoke about mentorship from a private practice perspective. Both of these physicians have been excellent mentors for the young physicians they work with in practice and in ACOG. In addition to mentorship, the forum provided a useful and easy-to-understand update on the Affordable Care Act. If you weren’t able to attend, highlights from the forum are available on the young physician website.
The 10th Annual Young Physician Breakfast Forum will be held on April 29 at the ACM in Chicago. Save the date!
