The Creighton L. Edwards, MD, Award in Compassionate Care

Purpose: The Creighton L. Edwards, MD, Award in Compassionate Care honors a Texas ob-gyn resident in training (PGY2-PGY4) who has shown an outstanding ability to communicate compassion, empathy, and respect for patients while providing superior medical care. 

Description: Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to continued education, surgical skills and medical knowledge. While maintaining academic excellence, the winner will also exhibit a willingness to encourage and cultivate these valued personal and medical talents and skills in his/her colleagues, coworkers, and students.

The annual Edwards Award recipient, chosen by a review committee composed of College and District XI leaders, receives a monetary award, travel to and registration for a CREOG Meeting of his/her choice, and complimentary registration to the District XI Annual District Meeting. Applications due September 30.

Your application should be a single PDF document with: 

  1. A letter from a faculty member at the resident’s home institution which highlights how the resident meets the description noted above.
  2. A supporting letter from a patient or nurse is not mandatory but will be considered.
  3. The applicant’s or nominee’s curriculum vitae.

District VII Hollis Fellow Award

Purpose: To foster continued ACOG involvement from Young Physicians and Junior Fellows, specifically within their home Section and District VII, through personal interaction with the Advisory Council.  It is also hoped that the Hollis Fellow will encourage greater involvement by peers at home.

Description/Criteria: Hollis Fellows are chosen from their respective Sections to interact closely with the District VII Advisory Council during the Annual District Meeting (ADM) and experience firsthand the workings of the Congress.  They attend the Fellow Advisory Council Meeting and Young Physician Meeting on the day prior to the start of the ADM as a guest of the Council with encouragement to comment and participate.  They are also invited to attend the entire ADM as a guest of District VII.  It is also hoped that the Hollis Fellow will encourage greater involvement by peers at home.

Award Recipients receive up to $1,500 for expenses incurred to attend the ADM plus coach airfare; registration fees for the Annual District Meeting are paid by District VII.

Selection Process: Hollis Fellows are selected in rotation from three Sections within District VII annually.  Section Chairs are charged with making the selection of the Hollis Fellow from within their Section by the end of May.  If you are interested in becoming a Hollis Fellow, please contact your Section Chair.

Criteria:

  • Young Physicians and Junior Fellows in Practice are eligible for the Hollis Fellowship
  • The nominee must be available to attend the entire Advisory Council Meeting at the ADM
  • The nominee must reside in one of the three Sections that are selecting Hollis Fellows that year (2016 – Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi; 2017 – Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee; 2018 – Kansas, Mexico, Missouri)
