Ages 65 Years and Older: Immunizations

The following immunizations are recommended for women in this age group:

Diphtheria and reduced tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis vaccine booster (Tdap) or tetanus–diphtheria (Td) booster

 

A shot to immunize against the diseases tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis

 

Substitute one-time dose of Tdap for Td booster shot that is given every 10 years

 

Herpes zoster vaccine

 

A shot to help prevent shingles, painful blisters caused by varicella

 

Once if not previously immunized

 

Influenza vaccine

 

A shot to help prevent influenza (the flu)

 

Yearly

 

Pneumococcal vaccine

 

A shot to help prevent pneumonia

 

Once

 

Varicella vaccine

 

A series of two shots to help prevent chickenpox

 

One series if not previously immunized or never had chickenpox
