In this session, members of SMFM will address current controversies in Maternal Fetal Medicine. The session will feature a play focused on noninvasive prenatal testing and starring leaders of the society. Other topics of current interest, including universal cervical length screening, screening for preeclampsia, and use of low dose aspirin to prevent adverse obstetrical outcomes will be considered in an interactive debate-style format. In addition, given the recent concerns regarding the Zika virus, that topic will be discussed. Information regarding the current state of knowledge regarding risks, and updated recommendations, will be reviewed.

Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS)
Vivian Sung, MD, President

The Society of Gynecologic Surgeons leadership will highlight the integration of evidence-based medicine and mentorship into surgical practice. Evidence that supports a primary consideration of vaginal hysterectomy (the original and still pre-eminent form of minimally invasive hysterectomy) and techniques to facilitate vaginal hysterectomy will be discussed.  This will be supplemented with pertinent surgical videos.  We will then focus on SGS mentorship efforts, which include collaborative research networks, the systematic review group, incorporating evidence-based practice training for busy gynecologists, and efforts to develop a mentorship program. We will also present award winning papers and videos from recent SGS Scientific Meetings. Finally, the current president will briefly discuss the long and honored tradition of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons.
